first time in a great while something like this happened. the tears don't stop flowing. first it was a song, not a really significant one, but as I was listening, it made me think back. second was a music video, that I really like. finally feat. u-kiss by brave brothers. for some reason, even when the song just started, the lyrics showing up on the screen, were making my eyes water. in the end, I couldn't control them. the song didn't even have to do with me. maybe it did in the past, but I believe I let that go already. then was a text. that I sent long time ago.

Well, this could be a bit of rant so beware. First of all, I don't mind people calling me whatever nicknames I may get because it's all in good fun. It's not a bad thing, and no harm is meant to be done. Second, I've been getting pretty pissed when people call whatever I do gay when I hardly say the same about they do. I dress the way I do because I like it. It's different and if you don't like it, then yeah, I understand, but people don't have to fucken criticize me everyday in a negative way. It wasn't much of a problem before, I was used to it, but it's just been getting too excessive. Just because it's different from what you've seen in everyday life in Hilo or it's not how you dress, doesn't mean that everyone's going to dress/act like you. I tease people, but I understand where they're coming from, especially if they're not from here. I, myself, am from Hilo, but my background is mostly Asian. I'm like a borderline between local and asian I think...somewhere in between. So just back off and I'm not pointing fingers, it's more than just a few people. It's more towards the entire community that can't see this lol. I told you, it's a rant, had to blow off steam. So don't take any offense. Ahhh, there's a lot more I wanna say, but I'll leave it for another time, I want to eat.

despite the terrible stiff neck I had to deal with all day (and night), there was a lot of great things going on today. Parts in the mail, house being cleaned, projects being finished, eating good food and having an awesome time with lots of great friends....can't get much better than this. Just wish everyone could have days like this more often, as it seems everyone is stressing over an increasing amount of things as time goes on.

To those of you that tried to visit D.C just to find an error spat at you, I apologize. Hopefully things like this can be avoided in the future.
Thanks to Vejida for helping out server-side in his busy schedule. Hopefully things will smooth out from now.

Quote

"A Hacker is any person who derives joy from
discovering ways to circumvent limitations."
-- Bob Bickford, rab@well.sf.ca.us, 1986

Don't be fooled by media-inspired connotations, anyone into engineering or computer science is a hacker. But what about poetry, art, film or music? They fit the description too. Poets, artists, filmmakers/photographers and musicians all make their living by doing something they love, which is going beyond the constraints of their equipment, materials and/or language. A good song is more than the sum of all its parts, as is a well-done painting or award-winning movie.

People are so scared of hackers because of what they hear, these hackers are not hackers so much as digital bullies, no different from troublemakers in the analog world. The way Bob Bickford puts it though, is that most if not all of our heroes and role models are hackers in that sense. It may not be the definition, but it goes to show how much unnecessary influence the media has on us, and how they usually ruin a perfectly good thing because of a single negative connotation. For example, Bittorrent is looked down upon as stuff only copyright infringers use to share illegally obtained software or multimedia. The inconvenient truth is that Bittorrent is the best filesharing protocol; it's being used by pirates because of that. Bittorrent itself is not to blame, it's the users who use it illegally and bring negative attention to the tools they use (torrents) make the uninformed have a bad first impression, and never bother to find out the truth.

Have you been affected in this way by the media? Allowed their 'coverage' to bias yourself towards something you aren't familiar with? After realizing this myself, I try to make informed decisions on whether or not to support/condemn something. You'd be surprised, in this day and age where technology is advancing so quickly, how quickly people jump to conclusions based on information from only one (not completely reliable) source that has to 'dumb down' its broadcasts so everyone can understand it. The problem with dumbing down is that sometimes the result is...well, dumb.

That's all for my early morning thought. Now I have five hours before I have to get up to take DJ to work so I'll end it here...
