so, to make a long story short, I traded a Snapcaster Mage for a Nerf Maverick Rev.6.

Posted Image
initial mod, taking out the air restrictors

Posted Image
preloading the spring with some coins.

Posted Image
taking it apart again for further modding

Posted Image
removing the barrels

Posted Image
separating the different pieces of the barrel

Posted Image
front barrel limiter, closed

Posted Image
front barrel limiter, open. this only allows one dart to be reloaded at a time, so therefore needs to be fixed

Posted Image
two minutes of dremel work later

Posted Image
rear barrel limiter, closed

Posted Image
rear barrel limiter, open. I need to remove the middle stop

Posted Image
two minutes of dremel work later

Posted Image
drilling out the caps for more airflow

Posted Image
using the size before 1/8" (whatever it is)

Posted Image
all six caps drilled out

Posted Image
I enlarged the holes to 3/8" since they had perfect pilot holes

Posted Image
doing some cleanup by hand with a larger drill bit

Posted Image
beveled the edges slightly with my RC body reamer

Posted Image
much better airflow

Posted Image
measuring the spring

Posted Image
just in case

Posted Image
five cents worth of preload, any more and the cylinder can't cock

Posted Image
glorious reload ability.

Posted Image
good to go!

last mod for awhile, I think. I added 2oz of lead fishing weights into the Maverick's handle for better weight distribution

Posted Image
Put them in alternate directions so the handle would fit back together neatly

I recently got a Nerf Alpha Trooper CS-12. I wasn't sure if it had good modding potential, but it was only $20 so what could go wrong?

Posted Image
biggest complaint is that it doesn't come with a stock from the factory, even though it has an attachment post.

Posted Image
cracking it open

Posted Image
door thing that was useless so I removed it

Posted Image
getting to the air restrictors was not as easy as the Maverick, I should have drilled it out but instead I used my soldering iron to melt the insides

Posted Image
all cleared out. It took weeks of normal usage til my iron stopped smelling like shit.

Posted Image
final picture of the tube. Believe it or not, that cap thing right next to my index finger needs to be on the barrel in order for the gun to prime properly. It took me half an hour to figure that out...

I realized that there are a lot of modifications to do to the electric blasters, so I split the Nerf topic and each blaster from now on will have their own.

I did some work to the Alpha Trooper that's still in progress.

Posted Image
Comparing the AT's breech to the one on the Longshot.

Posted Image
I've been interested to find out why the AT doesn't allow barrel extensions to be used, so I'm in the process of borrowing the tips from unused blasters (Spectre and Retaliator) to see if I can modify or adapt them.

Posted Image
The other thing is that I stupidly took out the dart tooth but thankfully there was a little piece behind the door that would chamber the darts fine without it. I figured since I have the blaster apart I might as well put it back in.
note that this is the wrong spring for the application, this spring in particular came off one of the Vortex blasters. I have a photo earlier in the thread of the correct spring.

Work in progress on the Alpha Trooper is to remove all the locks that I missed, and get a working barrel attachment adapter on the front since it would look pretty cool with one. The Retaliator and the Alpha Trooper share a spring so I can't use both at the same time, and the Spectre uses a shorter and fatter one that won't fit in the piston.

While troubleshooting the blaster, I realized that nowhere online had photos of the sled lock mechanism (allows blaster to half-prime but not deprime). It needs to come out, but I figured I'd throw together some photos of it.

After removing the lock, I could finish up my work on the Alpha Trooper.

Posted Image
Locks removed, dart tooth reinstalled. Time to put this thing back together.

Posted Image
Dremeled out a divot for the barrel attachments to lock in to. Fortunately the Alpha Trooper's front end is barely large enough to allow it

Posted Image
I'm borrowing a lock ring from a Longstrike barrel to use for testing

Posted Image
It fits around the stock barrel just fine, so no external grinding was necessary

Posted Image
Drilling holes as I decided to use screws as the stops

Posted Image
voila

Posted Image
This is the placement for the top and bottom bump stops

Posted Image
They hold the ring like so

Posted Image
The second set of screws are the attach/detach guides, the things that make it so you have to twist the barrel off

Posted Image
I switched to countersunk screws halfway through, since the larger head meant a tighter fit

Posted Image
Also because there cannot be any protrusion into the barrel itself, so M3x3mm screws were the only ones I had on hand that fit

Posted Image
Feeding the barrel on past the guide

Posted Image
Looking underneath at the barrel lock, it goes into the divot nicely. Perfect

Posted Image
Looks pretty good if you ask me

Posted Image
Longstrike barrel is on

Posted Image
Sweet!

I think that's pretty much all I'm going to be doing to my Alpha Trooper, short of getting a more powerful spring for it. It's a very good blaster that is reliable if you know how to use it (don't short-prime and it won't jam).
