Got a Firestrike over the Black Friday weekend.

I bought some springs from Ace Hardware (their #49 spring, to be exact) and I read that it was a good replacement for the Firestrike.

Here's the blaster, ready to be cracked open again

Simple internals

Pull out the catch and plunger assembly

Posted Image
There's a one way snap on for the plunger head that I was too lazy to try and undo

Posted Image
So I just wound off the spring. That's why it's a little deformed up at the top.

Posted Image
Comparing the different springs, LTR: Firestrike stock, Ace #49, Handyman SP-9713

Posted Image
I thought I could get away with using the entire spring, but it doesn't quite fit into the shell if I use it this way.

Posted Image
Cut off some coils (3/4" worth I think) so it's the same size as the stock one

Posted Image
Now it fits back into the shell

Posted Image
I ruined the plunger rod twisting the upgraded spring onto it. :\ I probably wouldn't have damaged it if I cut the spring first. Oh well.

There's a red mark on my arm from being shot at close range with an Elite dart. This thing actually hurts now.

We shall see how long the internals last, but for a cheap upgrade the $1.30 for a spring is definitely worth it.
