Deathnote, a gothic manga with the artist from Hikaru no Go. It's pretty good. There's a sense of death but doesn't seem too gruesome as of now. Of course since the title 'Deathnote'.

Deathnote is a story about a young guy name Light who finds a notebook in which whosoever finds the notebook and writes a person's name shall die however the author writes. Seems pretty cool if you ask me....having a notebook in which you can literally write the end to someone's life.

I've read a little about this series and most people find it good so I think I'll read it when I get the chance.

sure its "gothic" but light isn't at all... only the cover and the shinigami are...I personally read the second book in japanese and it is very good.

I don't know if I'd call it gothic, a thriller but not gothic. Hellsing's probably the most gothic anime/manga I can think of at the moment.

Still and awesome manga. I had read up to chapter 70 or something scanslated but then lost track of it, I still recommend it to my friends though. Intelligent, generally well placed and really good at getting into the psychology behind the characters.

P.S Kudos to the artist for not making a stereotypical bishonen god of death. Hooray for scarier and yet more appropriate designs!

I second that motion for not having a bishounen as a shikagami like Ryuk. It makes the story a little more interesting and as one girl put it (after I showed her) "it will center all the readers to Light who is a 'bishounen'".

Defintely recommend this one to my friends, since they didn't know what the hell I was talking about in the first place. Would you want to have a cool notebook like that?

And if you did would you trade half your life to have Death's Eyes (or whatever it was called)?

Hmm, if it comes from ebay...I'm not so sure. If I had one, probably use it for 'cleansing the Earth' as Light puts it. Where's my hit list...

As I look for that, I'm not really far up into the series but one has to wonder, what would happen if you ran out of paper? Is it the same as if you passed the notebook to someone else and your memories were erased from ever using the notebook? Maybe.

Must suck...when Light gets really attached to Ryuk...thats going to be funny...they are going to try they're hard not to end the book...or Light can be heartless and just dump him...

I thought they explained that in the story. That Light neither goes to heaven nor hell and Ryuk claims his soul. After that I don't remember but I think that Light to become a shinigami is possible.

I finally figure out what you guys are talking about, and picked up the first two volumes (Waldenbooks' 25% off after-Christmas sale, all right), and I love it. The story is very interesting, the characters are believable (and balanced out), and the battle of wits is fun to watch too.

I don't think there can be an end to the deathnote, because Ryuk says in the first book that he's gonna be the one to write Light's name in the notebook...that means Light either has to stop before he finishes off the whole thing, or the Death Note never runs out. (He has two, but this is the same process that all the other Shinigami, with only one notebook, have to follow I think).

is it just me but the deathnote keeps looking thinner each time i see it later. mayby its because he keeps tearing out all the pages for use like killing the FBI agents.

Maybe it's just inconsistencies with the drawings...you can't expect someone to draw the Deathnote a thousand times with 100% accuracy...

However, there was some things said that counter my theory...oh well. Maybe we'll find out later.

I'm up to chapter 57 right now... it's so good, I have a hard time doing other things than reading Deathnote...

im up to chapter 80 something. but really. the deathnote looks really skinny now. before it looked like a normal notebook, now its like a few pages held in a cover.

Pretty interesting, but with the Deathnote having less and less pages, we have to remember that at the very beginning of Deathnote, Light wrote pages of names after Ryuk appeared in his room. That may contribute to having less pages in Deathnote.

so they deathnote pages dissapear after he writes on them? or is it just being torn out... or is it because...*spoiler, highlight to read*its rem's (or remu, depends on what the translator calls her) 2nd deathnote, the one misa was originally using. it seems that different shinigami's deathnotes vary in size with others.

If that's the case, why can't they make them more convenient?

highlight v

Like make them pocket sized or something?
