this article deserves its own discussion topic I think. Perhaps this is just an article created to deprecate the ages-old stereotype as the gamer being a social outcast, who is wasting their life away by playing video games. Perhaps this is something more, a cry for people to realize that gaming has become a lot bigger than the public is willing to admit, perhaps, and for it to be recognized as one hell of an industry that not only provides entertainment for the players, but a creative output for the game developers and a positive future for everyone.
What do you think? I think he's right, and we're at the point where gaming has to reach beyond exploiting the graphics capability, or some facet of the story or characters. Games have to deliver exactly what the players want for them to be successful. Even today, it's easy to see the games that have massive appeal, because they're still being played. We've been playing SSBM for the better part of its life, which is nearing 9 years. Starcraft has been around for almost 12 years. Even games that have not been around for nearly as long have a massive following (Modern Warfare and its sequel, for example).
